Crazy Find: Bob Bell Pass Trail, Myrtle Beach SC

While Duckie and I were on our weekly ride on the boulevard looking at the pretty beach houses, Duckie mentioned that she had found this weird trail off a back road in Carolina Forest. The trail itself was marked by a metal sign claiming that it ran all the way to Canada over the course of a few thousand miles. According to what Duckie had heard, the trail just stops in a field. I was intrigued by this idea and so I had Duckie take me to the spot.

Here are directions to this sign:

From Carolina Forest @ 501 >
Follow Carolina Forest Boulevard all the way to River Oaks Drive.
Take a right once you’ve reached the stoplight at Forest Crossings (or whatever they may be calling that section).
Take your first left, immediately following the overpass (next to The Battery).
Drive straight down this road ( I don’t know what it is called) for about a quarter of a mile and the sign will be on the left hand side of the road. Blue sign, yellow font next to a paved path.

We found the sign with ease. The sign stated that it was indeed a trail that led all the way to Canada. The “Bob Bell Pass Trail” as this section was called connected Key West to Canada with 3,000+ miles of walking trail known as The East Coast Greenway. We had never heard of it before and if it is as big as this sign claims it is, I”m surprised we haven’t. Not to mention, its location is so random and hidden away from everything. Maybe they are still in the process of building it; I don’t know how it gets around Hwy 31.

What is The East Coast Greenway? “The East Coast Greenway is a developing trail system, spanning nearly 3,000 miles as it winds its way between Canada and Key West, linking all the major cities of the eastern seaboard. Nearly 25 percent of the route is already on safe, traffic-free paths.”  From what I can tell, the project is currently still undergoing construction and is a non profit organization. Donations are appreciated.

Check out info on the greenway here. Enjoy a piece of it here in Myrtle Beach!!  Has anyone been to this location?
