Insomniac like WOAH

I have this crazy internal alarm clock that likes to wake me up at 3 am every night. In the past few days however, it has decided that 1:27 is a better time. No joke for the past three nights I’ve woken up at exactly 1:27 a.m.

So each night I roll out of bed at that time trying not to be too loud as to wake up my husband and I locate the iPad or the tv remote. I have now seen every episode of every late night 90’s sitcom and have perfected the art of tiptoeing in the dark. Recently I chock up my odd sleeping habits to my incessant Prison Break marathon.

Prison Break, side note, is a really awesome show. It used to come on one of the major cable networks, can’t think of it right now, but its on Netflix instant stream right now. I am in the middle of Season 3 right now and I can’t stop watching! Unfortunately however I have been having these crazy dreams about being locked inside a jail and having to formulate these extravagant plans to escape. When I wake up sometimes I feel so frustrated and confused because of the calculations and such that I am doing in my sleep.

I slept really good when I used to watch True Blood before I went to sleep. Ironically the semi-horrific show doesn’t give me any crazy dreams like the prison show. I would dream of Vampire Eric mostly, could you blame me? nom. I had a lot about Lafayette and Sookie too. The mind is really an amazing thing isn’t it?

I’ve tried taking some sleep aids to help me sleep through the night, all over the counter stuff. My body is used to Tylenol PM now so I can’t take that one. I’ve used one called ensom which worked pretty good for a while. I stopped taking them because I’d rather wake up once in the middle of the night than be addicted to those suckers.

Well it’s 7:21 a.m. and I don’t have to be to work until 1 p.m. so maybe I’ll try to catch up on my sleep. zZzZzZzZz

Salvia Chronicles

Salvia Divinorum is a hallucinogenic herb that is currently legal in most of the United States, although I’m not quite sure why. Salvia is typically found in dried leaf form, ranging from $20-$80 for approx 5 grams or so. The leaves can be smoked through a bong, bowl or pipe and/or can also be rolled into a joint or blunt of sorts. The Salvia “high” can set in after only 30 seconds and lasts for only a few minutes. Salvia was at one time used by shamans to predict the future, thanks to it’s hallucinogenic properties.

I was encouraged to purchase some salvia from my local smoke shop by a few co-workers and friends of mine. I purchased a small bag (approx. 5 grams or so) of dried leaves at 40X strength for approx $40. I smoked the herb out of a glass pipe as recommended by the associate at my shop.

But before I go ahead, here are a few examples of how Salvia affected friends of mine :

Co-Worker 1: “Jim” smoked 80X strength and found himself in his work office with his co-workers pointing fingers at him. The walls of the office began to melt and peel off. Suddenly, he was awake and back in his living room. During a second smoking session, “Jim” found himself inside of a Nike sneaker running across a parking lot. He literally thought that he was small enough to be bouncing around in a sneaker’s sole.

Co-Worker 2: “Sarah” felt like she was melting into her surroundings. She also recalled seeing a wide open ocean all around her.

Friend # 1 : “Rebecca” recalled feeling like she was trapped inside of a plastic box that she could not tear herself out of. She was not in a state of panic, but in more of a state of confusion.

Friend # 2:
“Alisa” and “Michelle” enjoyed a smoking session together. “Alisa” stared at “Michelle” and complained about how she was not allowed to leave the house with the striped paper walls. “Michelle” was wearing a yellow and black striped shirt and “Alisa” was convinced that “Michelle” was the one holding her hostage.

My Salvia Experiences:

Experiment #1: I decided to smoke by myself for the very first time. I had read that being around other people could ruin your hallucinogenic trip. I took as large of a hit as I could (also recommended) and I sat back awaiting craziness. My muscles seemed to tighten and I began to stare at my limbs. They seemed extra long. I tried to reach out to items sitting on a desk across the room and I could swear that they were just out of my reach. I refer to this trip as my “Stretch Armstrong” incident. I felt as if I could literally throw and extend my arm like a “Stretch” doll.

Experiment #2: I wanted to give it another go a few weeks later. Mostly just because I had quite a bit of Salvia left from my first experiment. I smoked out of  a glass pipe again and found myself laughing hysterically.

Experiment #3: I found myself in a hospital room with a woman with short reddish hair. She had her fingers to her lips and she told me to “Shh” and that “There is no talking in here”. I tried desperately to respond, but my vocal chords felt strained and pulled off to the right side of my face. It was a bizarre experience but after 40 seconds or so I was snapped back into reality.

Experiment #4: I was in a completely blank room. You could not tell where the floor began or where the ceiling ended, it was just openness. A young blondwoman in a red dress with some sort of pattern that I could not make out was calling for me to follow her. A gentleman with her, who reminded me of a 70’s flashback, was pulling on me to get up and follow them. I didn’t find out where they were going as I traveled back into reality.

I’m left wondering if the visions that I were having were some subconscious mumbo jumbo, or was I tapping into some mental state of awareness where others (like my mysterious friends) could communicate with me? It’s crazy. Has anyone else had an interesting experience? I would love to hear what other people’s experiences were like!

Money Makeover

I have about 10 months to get my financial situation under control. We aren’t broke, but we are spenders not savers. Being in my early twenties, I’m hoping to develop good financial habits now so that I can be financially stable my entire lifetime. I’ve tried countless times to try and get my situation under control but once I do, I end up back in the same old spending habits.I’m taking a stand. I’m getting over my debt and my spending today.
Right now.
Right this very second, I’m putting my foot down.

“I like to spend money.”

Over the course of the next few weeks, I’m going to discuss a few financial programs that others have recommended to me:

Total Money Makeover – Dave Ramsey
How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out of Debt, and Live Prosperously – Jerrold Mundis
The Everything Get Out of Debt Book – Cheryl Kimball

I’m going to talk about the values and techniques that I learn and how it is changing my financial future day by day. I hope that this will be an informative and fun journey. Good Luck!

Quote of The Day

“I don’t want to tip toe through life only to arrive safely at death!”

Dear Daddy

Robert Joseph Macaulay Jr.

June 3rd, 1966 – February 28th, 2010

This is the third or so time I’ve tried to begin this post. I’m at a loss for words and I’m not sure exactly what it is that I want to say. I’m still in a bit of shock. Although my father has been battling cancer for most of my life, it still doesn’t make it any easier to deal with the fact that he is now gone. His health had seriously deteriorated over the past year or so and I am so thankful that I was able to see him one last time before he passed.

Dear Daddy,
I just want you to know that I love you so much. You were a fantastic father even if I didn’t show it all of the time. I wish I had spent more time with you and told you how much you meant to me and how thankful I was for you. So many memories come to mind and my eyes are filled with tears. I am happy that you are no longer in any pain but at the same time I am so sad that you are gone. I’m going to do the best that I can to be strong for everyone and help them cope.
We all miss you so much already. You will never be forgotten. You will live on forever in our hearts and minds. I  can’t wait till I get to see you again on the other side. Please give hugs and kisses to Andrew and Poppy for me.
Rest in peace knowing that I will always be thinking of you and how much we all love you.

I will forever and always be your little girl.

Facebook, Did you take your meds today?

I have been having issues with Facebook all day long. First, the search section wasn’t working and you couldn’t find any friends to add. Then I couldn’t get any photos to load without locking up the whole site. THEN, the icing on the cake..

Facebook managed to kill Nicholas!!

yeah, you read that right. Facebook among all of its wild and crazy antics today managed to mark his profile as a ‘Memorial Page’ and now he can’t log into his account. So we sat around searching for some contact information for Facebook. It’s really hard to find. I searched through the ‘help center’ and @replied the Facebook account in hopes someone would contact us back. I googled around a bit and came across this:  http://bit.ly/9IdXlR which helped a bit; offering the methods to contact them. I haven’t heard anything yet (go figure!). Today has been a ridiculous day in the world of Facebook users. I hope Nicholas comes back to life soon!

Chapschtick!

Quick! Look in your purse right now and tell me how many tubes of chap stick or lip gloss you have sitting in there. 1? 2? 4? I currently have 3 which proves my point: Women have a fetish for flavored lip balm! Here are a few brands out right now that I’m absolutely in love with.

Burt’s Bees – Everyone loves the minty scent and menthol tingle that it leaves on your lips. My favorites include the original and the shimmer with just a hint of color and flavor. Burt’s Bee’s offers a whole line of other products that are worth giving a try as well. [ I love the deep conditioners! ] You can purchase Burt’s Bee’s products at most major retailers, i.e. Target, Walmart, Drugstores, etc.

Yankee Candle – I got a mini set of these in my Christmas stocking and now I can’t get enough! Yankee Candle’s brand of chap stick are shaped like little candle jars (so cute!) and they smell just like the candles they represent. French vanilla, Strawberry, Christmas Cookie and Lime were the few that came in my pack and each one is just as delicious as the next! I can’t wait to go buy a few new flavors. You can purchase Yankee Candle product’s at, you guessed it!, Yankee Candle.

Vitamin Water - This is my newest find and its a great one! Glaceau, the creators of Vitamin Water, have dedicated a chap stick line to their water. The chap sticks have the same names and flavors as the waters themselves, which is always a nice surprise. XXX is my favorite flavor as it is a blend of berries and pomegranate. I will use this stick the fastest out of them all I think; I just love the soft moist texture of this gloss. I was able to find my chap stick at Walgreens. This leads me to believe that you should also be able to find them in Walmart, CVS, Target and other major retailers.

Crazy Find: Bob Bell Pass Trail, Myrtle Beach SC

While Duckie and I were on our weekly ride on the boulevard looking at the pretty beach houses, Duckie mentioned that she had found this weird trail off a back road in Carolina Forest. The trail itself was marked by a metal sign claiming that it ran all the way to Canada over the course of a few thousand miles. According to what Duckie had heard, the trail just stops in a field. I was intrigued by this idea and so I had Duckie take me to the spot.

Here are directions to this sign:

From Carolina Forest @ 501 >
Follow Carolina Forest Boulevard all the way to River Oaks Drive.
Take a right once you’ve reached the stoplight at Forest Crossings (or whatever they may be calling that section).
Take your first left, immediately following the overpass (next to The Battery).
Drive straight down this road ( I don’t know what it is called) for about a quarter of a mile and the sign will be on the left hand side of the road. Blue sign, yellow font next to a paved path.

We found the sign with ease. The sign stated that it was indeed a trail that led all the way to Canada. The “Bob Bell Pass Trail” as this section was called connected Key West to Canada with 3,000+ miles of walking trail known as The East Coast Greenway. We had never heard of it before and if it is as big as this sign claims it is, I”m surprised we haven’t. Not to mention, its location is so random and hidden away from everything. Maybe they are still in the process of building it; I don’t know how it gets around Hwy 31.

What is The East Coast Greenway? “The East Coast Greenway is a developing trail system, spanning nearly 3,000 miles as it winds its way between Canada and Key West, linking all the major cities of the eastern seaboard. Nearly 25 percent of the route is already on safe, traffic-free paths.”  From what I can tell, the project is currently still undergoing construction and is a non profit organization. Donations are appreciated.

Check out info on the greenway here. Enjoy a piece of it here in Myrtle Beach!!  Has anyone been to this location?

Fashionably Absent

I ran across an article this morning that I thought was very bizarre. Thanks to a RT on Twitter from @AlysonNoel, I stumbled across an article this morning about how girls in Thailand are paying big bucks to have braces. Apparently, decorating your teeth with little colored pieces of plastic and rubber bands is COOL. On top of that braces are very expensive so some girls in desperate need of colorful teeth go to the middle of flea markets where people will just apply a set for them; mind you these people are not trained professionals! Due to the haphazard ways in which the braces are applied and the dirty conditions, its no wonder that two girls have already died for this trend! Back areas of flea markets are not meant for orthodontic procedures!! Not to mention, who ever said braces were cool?! Check out the original article HERE. :)

I’m a reading machine!

I have been reading through novels faster than usual lately. Here are a few I’ve finished, started or have yet to read that are worth picking up!

“Fallen” by Lauren Kate – Similar to Twilight with forbidden love. But I love Daniel Grigori so much more than Edward Cullen and I think the plot is much more exciting! The sequel novel, “Torment” will be available Autumn 2010. I can’t wait!

“The Immortals Series” by Alyson Noel – Ever has lots of extraordinary talents like seeing auras. The plot is complex and fantastic. Evermore is Book 1.

“The House of Night Series” by P.C & Kristin Cast – I’ve devoured these novels in one sitting at a time. In the  new world if you are marked by a tracker you are forced to go through schooling at The House of Night. There is a pretty long series available which makes me so excited and leaves me still craving for more. Marked is Book 1.
